IN NORTH
MACEDONIA
ESG is gaining more attention, but practical implementation is still in its early stages compared to Western markets.
The Macedonian legislative framework is still evolving in line with European ESG standards.
A Law containing a Directive which will oblige large companies to report in accordance with ESG standards is to come into force this year. Soon after the EU members states finalize the implementation of the Regulative for corporate responsibility that applies to all companies in the second half of this year, the countries of the WB including Macedonia will follow accordingly.
North Macedonia is part of the EU Green Deal, which sets targets for reducing CO2 emissions and transitioning to a circular economy, directly impacting the application of ESG standards in the country.
